According to The Jersey Journal, several local residents were displaced after a two-alarm fire damaged their two-story house in Guttenberg early Saturday. When firefighters responded around 5:15 a.m., they found flames shooting out of the first-floor rear windows.
North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue Acting Chief Frank Montagne said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but a first-floor tenant heard a popping sound from a free-standing electric heater and then saw smoke. The rear of both floors sustained significant fire damage, while the other parts of the house suffered significant water and smoke damage. Building inspectors will determine if the structure has to be torn down.
